Storytelling

Martha Lynn Coon leading a storytelling group

My first love will always be storytelling.  As a Southerner from a large family, telling stories is the way we keep culture, laughter, and hope alive. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of hearing diverse and compelling stories from my work teaching, writing, and facilitating in the United States and abroad. One of the through lines I observed in my work was how crucial story and personal narrative are in terms of how individuals and communities understand themselves.

Stories have a essential capacity to connect us more deeply to ourselves and each other, as well as facilitate both conversation and healing. In my personal and professional work, storytelling looks like: Developing narrative-based learning experiences and facilitation models, visual storytelling, writing plays and non-fiction, developing creative and story-based content for clients across mediums, and providing individual coaching and editorial services for writers, storytellers, and people trying to make sense of their own life and agency within their personal narratives.
